In Japan, it has long been believed that words and kanji characters possess a mysterious spiritual power known as “kotodama.” This belief in the sacred power of Kotodama has a history spanning hundreds of years and is recorded in Japan’s oldest literary works, the *Kojiki* and the *Man’yōshū*.

It is said that writing these words on paper made from natural materials is the most effective way to enhance this power.
Our amulets are made using Japanese “hinoki paper.” Hinoki is also known as the “sacred tree” and has been used since ancient times in the construction of many shrines and temples throughout Japan. Since hinoki paper is made from natural wood, the grain and texture vary from sheet to sheet.
Each amulet is stamped with the goshuin of the “薬師如来 (Yakushi-Nyorai) ,” believed to ward off evil spirits and bring good fortune.
The business-card-sized hinoki paper is laminated for protection.
Since each amulet is handwritten one by one using a traditional brush, the appearance of the characters varies slightly from piece to piece. Due to the nature of the material, the ink or red stamp pad may bleed slightly, but this does not affect the amulet’s spiritual efficacy.
